Egypt Chosen to Lead the African Network of National Human Rights Institutions

Mohamed Fayek, president of the National Council for Human Rights, declared yesterday that Egypt has officially been chosen as the president of the African Network of National Human Rights Institutions.

The Network of African National Human Rights Institutions (NANHRI) is a non profitable regional umbrella organization that brings together 44 National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) in Africa. It was funded back in 2007 and is registered under Kenyan laws as an independent legal entity.

The announcement was made during Fayek’s speech in the twelfth periodic conference of the Network of African National Human Rights Institutions.

The conference that saw the participation of 44 African countries, all of whom are members of the commission, in addition to representatives of regional, local and international human rights bodies in Egypt.

Fayek also highlighted that this conference is the first event to be organized in Cairo, and that the theme chosen for the conference stresses on the ‘Global Compact for Migration.’

The Network of African National Human Rights Institutions aims at achieving human right endeavors in all of the African countries, with principles that are in line with Paris’.

President El-Sisi Inaugurates Berenice Airport In Red Sea

President Abdel-Fattah El Sisi has inaugurated Berenice International Airport on Wednesday in the presence of UAE Crown Prince Mohamed bin Zayed.

This comes as part of the inauguration of Berenice military base, south of the Red Sea and during the tour, President Sisi provided detailed information on the airport. Among the details provided was that the airport has been implemented in a record time, and in respect to the highest standards that meet international ones and according to specifications in the field of international airports.

The airport has a 3.65 KM runway with a terminal capacity of up to 600 passengers, seeing how it was built on on a large area of 9600 meter square.

The Berenice military base which is located in the Red Sea has an airbase and a naval base that aims at protecting the investments and natural resources of the Red Sea, in addition to facing any possible threat by securing the international navigation between the Red Sea and the Suez Canal linking the Red Sea to the Mediterranean Sea.

Egypt Breaks a Guinness World Record With a Portrait of King Tut Made From Coffee Cups

The Grand Egyptian Museum celebrated on Saturday breaking a new Guinness world Record for creating a portrait of King Tutankhamun that is made out of coffee cups.

According to deputy of Minister of Antiquities and Tourism Ghada Shalaby, the event highlighted the significance of Egyptian antiquities and helped in promoting tourism.

Meanwhile, head of Supreme Council of Antiquities Mostafa Waziry described the museum as the largest and most prestigious cultural building in the entire world and to host such an event is a pride and honor.

During the closure of the event, Guinness Book of Records had recorded the portrait as the biggest painting to be made from 7260 coffee cups.

The inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) is the most anticipated event happening soon in 2020, an event that the whole world awaits.

A New Booking Method Using Credit Cards to Be Applied in Metro Stations

A new booking method will be adopted at metro stations as per instructions from the Minister of Transport, the new method will depend on credit cards in an attempt to reduce the crowd at ticket booths.

This new digital transformation will have the electronic portals deduct the trip cost directly from the credit card, without needing to have a ticket.

In doing so, a ‘reader’ will be installed on the electronic portals which will read the credit card, and then deduct the value of the passenger’s trip.

This new method will not replace the old fashioned one but will be adopted alongside the paper tickets. However, gradually and in the near future, it will replace the cashiers.

The booking method will accept all types of credit cards, and will have the value amounts transferred to the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) and then to the Egypt Metro Company account.
