Bringing an End to Hepatitis C

Published

Hepatitis C

Hepatitis C has been one of the high ranking viruses in Egypt ever since 2014, and only recently has President Abd el Fattah el Sisi and the Ministry of Health have decided to take drastic measures and address the root of the problem. Through certain procedures, they decided that the main source of issue here are salons and barbers. Which is why, a campaign were launched to help raise awareness as well as to teach people how to avoid spreading and eliminate hepatitis C altogether.

While going from barber to barber and salon to salon, it was noticed that shared grooming items for either hair or nails could be a main source of hepatitis C due to its lack of being properly disinfected. Beauty salons are also being thoroughly inspected. On a brighter note, seminars for beauty salons are about to commence whereas the employees are obliged to attend and learn cautiously from it.

It was announced by assistant minister of health for public health Mohamed Hassani that severe penalties will be faced as well as even losing their operating license if they fail to meet violating health regulations. Things are seeming hopeful since an action is being taken that is promised to either reduce or eliminate hepatitis C because Egypt is ranked #4 worldwide to have the most hepatitis C cases.

Due to this campaign,  it is promised that by May 2020, Egypt will no longer have any hepatitis C cases said spokesperson Bassam Radi. I am proud to state that the World Health Organization claims that the Egyptian government has been capable of providing 88% free treatment in a country where roughly 100 million citizens are living with hepatitis C.

Originally, the antiviral drug to cure hepatitis C commenced at 28,000$ whereas Egypt was capable of bargaining and decreasing the price to 300$ for monthly supplies, whereas they are hoping to minimize the number to 23$ which would be even more convenient.

Egypt is growing and is trying to better itself in all aspects by firstly taking care of the Egyptian population. 2020 is looking out to be a positive year with a lot of new things in store for us!

Moderna Inc’s vaccine against coronavirus has received on Friday the emergency use authorization (EUA) from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, making it the second vaccine to be registered.

The FDA made the announcement following a panel that was held for the agency with outside experts who endorsed the vaccine, and a week after the FDA’s authorization for Pfizer Inc and German partner BioNTech SE.

The vaccines from Pfizer and BioNTech, which share the similar technology, have been on a massive nationwide rollout and been handed out to thousands of U.S. healthcare workers. Moderna is expected to follow the lead of those vaccines.

“With the availability of two vaccines now for the prevention of COVID-19, the FDA has taken another crucial step in the fight against this global pandemic that is causing vast numbers of hospitalizations and deaths in the United States each day,” FDA Commissioner Stephen M. Hahn, M.D, said in a statement.

“It is my hope that all Americans will protect themselves by getting vaccinated when the vaccine becomes available to them. That is how our country will begin to heal and move forward,” top U.S. infectious disease scientist Anthony Fauci said in a statement.

We hope that with vaccines underway that this nightmare can finally come to an end and that 2021 will bring us the new start we desperately need.
