To The Women Who Have Done Us Miracles

Published

on

It’s the 12th of March, and I’m out with my mother.  I want to buy her a mother’s day gift, I ask her to try on this new pair of shoes that I know it perfectly well suits her style. But she chooses another, one that matches my style and not hers, because she wants me to wear it with her.

We go to a silver store, I want to exchange a necklace I got earlier. I fall for this ring, which 10 minutes later, I find her paying for it. It’s almost mother’s day, and she is the one buying me a gift.

She hands me the bag, kisses my forehead, and my eyes start to tear up. It’s a ring, a very simple silver one. I’m clearly not crying because of it, I’m tearing up for the meaning behind it.

I have always believed that there are no selfless deeds, we do a good deed, and expect to feel good about ourselves. We make a nice gesture, and wait for the other person to show appreciation. But my mother, my mother refuted this theory of mine. Selfless deeds do exist, because every day, she makes one.

I never knew what to get my mother, because nothing satisfies her more than seeing us, her children, happy. That’s why, this mother’s day, I’m buying my brother a gift, with her name on the gift tag.

So to the woman who raised me to be selfless, to put other people’s needs ahead of mine. Thank you. And to the women who were more than just mothers, who took on the role of a father, a sister and a friend. Who worked day after day and came home to continue working. You are fierce, and you’re beautifully strong. I honestly don’t know how you do it, but thank you.

In this month, I wonder, how will it feel to be a mother one day? How will I ever be half as good as my mother is? I love to think of the change that shall occur in my personality, when I acquire that motherly instinct; that will turn me into a superhero, multitasking and doing wonders.

I think of it, and I can’t wait. Because maybe I’ll never be able to pay back my own mother, but I surely will pay her back by raising my kids the same way she raised me. Strong, selfless and kind.

Turning the spotlight towards Asmaa and her rising star Lara

As mother’s day is upon us, we have sat down with the lovely Asmaa Sherif Mounir and her beautiful daughter Lara. The interview was a delightful one, and definitely one of a kind.

We took advantage of the nice weather and headed to Grand Nile Hotel where we were greeted with an incredible view, delicious food and a very friendly staff. Everything was catered to our comfort; which made the interview even more delightful.

The first thing that Asmaa shared with us is their morning routine, she told us that they always have breakfast together, and then they might watch something together. It was then that Lara shared with us a heartwarming story of the time she made breakfast in bed. The 6 year old, made her mommy breakfast, because she wasn’t feeling okay. How cute is she?

She then shared with us the thing that they enjoy doing together which is crafting and making DIYs, and as for Asmaa’s free time, she enjoys listening to music.
We asked her about her feeling when she found out she’s pregnant, she said she got really excited about it, and she even remember the movie she was watching when she found out about her pregnancy, and that she immediately called up her entire family to share with them the happy news.

Having both Asmaa and her daughter Lara inspired us to do a small competition, in which we asked each of them a question about the other one and see who gets them all right. While Lara’s superpower wish would be to fly. Her answer of what superpower her mommy would want was just so witty and smart! She said ‘I would say invisibility, because like you have all this attention and you would like some space for yourself.’

Lara’s favourite meal is fries, and Asmaa’s favourite is apparently duck? Well, at this point, Lara was so tired.

We asked Asmaa how she shows support to Lara, she told us that she gives her own space to dance, draw, sing, basically do whatever it is that she wants. She is always giving her the space to let out her energy; this way she would know what skills she has, and she can then support this talent of hers.

As for the things they have in common is the way they talk, their anger and stubbornness.

Asmaa also revealed to us the reason behind choosing the name Lara, she said that she wanted to give her an easy name, one she can learn quickly and no one would get wrong.

She expressed her enthusiasm about having a baby girl, and told us that she has always wished for one, so she can play with her, do make up together, and basically do together everything girly!

Finally, we asked Asmaa to give a tip to all the future mommies, in which she advices them to be more involved in their kids’ lives and to share every moment with them, also to never rush into things, and to enrich them not with money, but through developing their talents, and creating memories with them that they shall cherish forever.

An Open Letter to the Moms Who are Also The Fathers

Published

To the mother who was also a father, who took on a role that wasn’t hers to fill but she did anyway, and excelled at it. The mother who wanted to scream and cry, but didn’t have the time to do so, and so wiped the tear and carried on with her mother/ father duties.

She is a woman who showed persistence, who against all odds raised kids who didn’t sense the void that a father left. She is an incredible woman, who stood against societal stereotypes of single moms and widows.

Stereotypes that often tried to break her, looks of individuals that often sting. Whether they are sympathy looks, or astonishment, they always held questions that she never really wanted to answer.

How does she do it?

She must be miserable.

Poor thing.

Well, she is not. She has beautiful children who make it up for her, and how does she do it? Through the power of a mother. That power that pushes her day by day, to keep going, to not breakdown. But let me tell you this, many times she does, she breaks down, she doubts herself a lot, but what truly matters is that she stands up again, every. single. time.

To the mother who was also a father, a sister and a friend. To all the things you have sacrificed for the sake of your kids, and to all the feelings you have kept inside. One day, your kids will mature, and you will be able to share the burdens you hid. You’re raising the kids, who one day, will help ease these burdens.

I know that it is so hard for a husband to leave you, whether he left on purpose, or passed away. It is hard to maintain his role, but trust me, you can. And I know sometimes you think the worse of yourself, that you can do more and can do better, but trust me, you’re doing just fine, you’re doing the very best you can.

So to the mother who was also a father, Happy Mother’s/ Father’s day. You rock your children’s world.
