BBC interviews Al-Daheh Ahmed El-Ghandour

“Meet the geek behind Egypt’s hit online science show” was the title that BBC has given to its interview with our own Ahmed El Ghandour aka ‘Al-Daheh’, and it gives us pride to have one of our brilliant minds being acknowledged by such a well-known media platform.

El Ghandour launched his science blog back in 2014, and now his channel has clocked up more than 19 million views.

He might just be the only person who is capable of turning science into something fun, accessible and understandable to all segments that follow his blog.

“I love all scientific subjects, never really stuck to learning only one.” Al-Ghandour tells BBC.

And that’s what makes his blog even more interesting, and succeeds in attracting different segments; seeing that he covers topics ranging from evolution to war, from science to history and more.

He describes the character of Al-Daheh as lonely, nerdy and insecure. Always appearing by himself on the show. I believe this is one of the reasons that his blog is succeeding, because the character of Al-Daheh is one that appeals to all and gets you hooked to know more, he always tells the information in a fun, kind of a weird way.

One of the theories on how countries evolve and ways towards gaining sustainable development, is the education entertainment theory. And that is through spreading awareness and  educating masses by means of entertainment. This is why, Al-Daheh is a personal favorite to me, and one of the few influencers to be using his platform in doing his fans real good.

Why Facebook groups are becoming the best part of Social Media!

Published

on

By

For a while now, several groups have appeared on Facebook and Instagram, these groups are closed and private ones that are exclusive for girls, most popular ones are Miss Basket, Her Diary, The Bridal Club, The Hair Addict and more.

People from the outside might look at these groups from a shallow perspective, and view them as a waste of time or even a strange way of communication.

Well, truth is, it is. It really is strange for girls to be sharing stories, pictures, and basically bits and pieces of their lives on a group filled with strangers. But let’s look at it from a wider perspective, and that is a group of girls trusting one another to share such intimate parts of their lives, instead of sharing it with a close person, and that’s says a lot.

The following are reasons why Facebook groups might just be the new best thing:

1.  Girls empowering girls.

It’s crucial for women to learn how to support and empower one another, it’s about helping each other grow and reach the top, and that’s what these girl value and stand for. They’re supportive, they’re encouraging, they speak the truth and that’s why their opinions are acknowledged and believed. From just a simple compliment to a real life advice.

I have seen girls suffer from mental illnesses and when seeking help through sharing their feelings and stories on groups, they find it. And let me tell you, the kind of encouragement that they get, is unbelievable!

2. It shows the difference one compliment can do!

Girls frequently post about insecurities regarding their appearance, others share their weight transformation even if it’s not much, and the way members respond is just incredible. They point out the good in them, they heartily congratulate and encourage them to keep going.

And that is the power of a good word, and yes, sometimes a compliment coming from a stranger is more believable.

3. It’s actually beneficial.

There are groups specific for hair and skin care, others specified for mothers, newlyweds, upcoming brides and even groups for young women who want to share something crafty that they have done! All these groups have girls sharing their experience with products, what worked with them and what didn’t. Girls often seek these groups for advice on where to find a certain item, and they would find replies mentioning near places at the best prices.

Instead of boring yourself with countless reviews from several bloggers, one platform offers all you need to know and more.

4. It’s teaching girls to accept themselves.

Girls have spent years getting fed with false beauty standards, that push them into spending time, money and effort in trying to always tame their hair and straightening it. But ever since Dina Ghalwash started the Instagram beauty blog, Curlytalks, and girls have began to accept their curls and its natural beauty. She shared with fans her heat free journey, until it became a trend, a journey that one shall not walk it alone. A healthy one.

And now, girls are sharing with one another hair routines, and healthy products that they can substitute their expensive products with.

5. Connecting girls with talents.

In the group ‘Today I did’, young women and girls get to share a crafty thing that they have done, or something that they are talented in and sell. Which helps connect them with possible clients, who in return can get these things with a more reasonable price.

And that is why being a part of these groups have become more of a lifestyle to girls, one they wouldn’t want to change. It’s a platform giving them the space they need to express themselves, share tips, ask for maternal help, recommendations and sometimes even just sharing a selfie. All without the fear of being judged, mocked or disregarded.

The only part that sometimes saddens me, and gets me wondering if these groups are really as healthy as I claim, or are they the exact opposite, and that is because I wonder why girls started reaching out to strangers for comfort and compliments? Why girls are in constant need for reassurance in order to boost their self-esteem?

But it is a part I willingly choose to ignore, because I would hate to believe that these girls aren’t getting the attention they deserve from their loved ones. And if what I fear is true, I’m still glad that those girls have found support elsewhere.
