Ramy Youssef Wins Golden Globe and Amazes the Audience With his Humble Speech

Published

Egyptian-American Ramy Youssef won the first Golden Globe of the night, for Best Actor in a Comedy Series for his show Ramy, and then took the stage and said: ‘I would like to thank my God. Allahu akbar. Thank you, God’

Being just a newbie to Hollywood and the entertainment industry in general, his win might come as a surprise but it is indeed a remarkable achievement that he made it in such a relatively short time.

The Egyptian-American comedian later joked about his own win in the press room saying: “I was just happy they pronounced it [his name] right.”

“I was like, is Jennifer Aniston going to be able to pronounce this name? And she did it! Maybe it was Reese [Witherspoon], it was all a blur.” He added.

Even though Ramy Youssef isn’t the first Muslim to win a Golden Globe, it is indeed news worth celebrating not only for the beautiful way he reacted to his win, but also because at the moment, he’s working on Season two of Ramy for Hulu with the help of another Muslim who also previously won a Golden Globe, Mahershala Ali.

Will The Arabic Version of ‘Jane the Virgin’ Meet Our expectations?

Published

The first episode of ‘Al Anessa Farah‘ aired last night and as someone who is a big fan of the original series, I have had my doubts but watching the first episode actually met some of my expectations but more questions remain unanswered.

The series follows the life of Farah whose life gets turned upside down after she gets accidentally inseminated, which brings us to concern number one which is how this is relevant to our culture? Also, Farah is an accident child who never met her father, bringing us to concern number two.

The first episode was actually fun and even more hilarious than the original series, but seeing how the original reflects a totally different culture than ours is what had us confused and eager to see how they will adopt it to our norms and culture.

The series features the superstars Asma Abulyazeed, Rania Youssef, Mariam El Khosht, Ahmed Magdy, Mohamed El Kilany, and Heba Abdelaziz.

The cast is definitely one of the highlights of the series, they all match the original characters but with the usual touch of Egyptian humor.

The series started airing on MBC 4 and you can also binge watch it on Shahid.
