Egypt achieved a thrilling victory over Tunisia 3-2 in the 2019 African Nations Cup qualifier.
The Pharaohs shined against Tunisia presenting amazing performance, especially in the second half, crowned by Salah’s last minute goal which gave Egypt an important three points sharing the group leadership alongside Tunisia with 12 points.
Egypt’s three goals were through the winger, Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet, Baher el-Mohammady and Mohamed Salah. While Tunisia appeared in the game through Naim el-Seliti’s brace.
Naim el-Seliti took the lead for Tunisia in the 13th minute before Trezeguet equalizes the score for Egypt in the 32nd minute. Baher el-Mohammady doubled the score in the 60th minute through a brilliant header.
El-Seliti scored Tunisia’s second goal in the 72nd minute before Salah’s last minute goal came in an amazing way.
The Pharaohs deserved to win after a strong performance and offensive game led by the Mexican coach, Javier Aguirre, and only individual mistakes gave Tunisia their two goals.
The two teams met at Borg el-Arab stadium and their first match at Rades Stadium ended by a 1-0 victory for Tunisia through Taha Yassin Khneisi in June 2017.
The match was a good opportunity to push a number of new players who have joined the team during the current camp, or who have not had a chance in previous matches like the midfielder, Mohamed Mahmoud, and the striker, Taher Mohamed.
Aguirre continued his amazing run with the national team as he achieved four victories in four official games since he was appointed national team manager following Egypt’s world Cup early exit.
Egypt and Tunisia secured qualification for the tournament since the last round after Egypt achieved an away 2-0 victory over eSwatini, while Tunisia defeated Niger 2-1 in Niamey.
