Governor of Cairo, Khaled Abdel Aal announced on Sunday a new initiative that aims at planting gardens on all rooftops of Cairo’s buildings.

This initiative comes in light of sustainable development plans, and was announced about in a conference that was attended by representatives of ‘Leaders of Sustainable Development’ and ‘Homeland acknowledgement 2030’ initiatives.

Leaders from the two initiatives, that were founded as part of Egypt’s Vision for the year 2030, will take part of the project by spreading  awareness about the campaign, its importance and the positive outcomes of rooftop gardening.

The leaders representing the initiatives vowed to support the full implementation process of the process, and that includes providing the plants and seeds and any other equipment needed to make this happen.

Residents of the buildings won’t be asked to pitch in the costs of the plantation, but they will be asked to take the responsibility of maintaining the gardens and in return will get to benefit from any income that these gardens generate.

Cairo’s governor stressed that the project aims at providing a “safe and adequate housing” for the residents of Cairo.
