The consultant company Interbrand has recently published a report about the most valuable brands in the world as of 2018, in which they ranked Apple in the first place.
The system of ranking is predicated upon assignment of dollar value to a given brand based on that brand’s financial performance, and also its strength. The brand value of Apple is estimated to be $214 billion dollars.
Among the top five on the list come Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and Coca-Cola respectively, where Coca-Cola is valued at $66 billion dollars.
The Chief Executive of Interbrand Charles Trevail expressed his admiration at the fact that these brands have been successful at responding to the changing demands and expectations of consumers–stating that “today we live in a world where consumers have more power than ever, curating their own personal brands in ways we’ve never seen. Brands like Amazon, Spotify and Netflix lead the way in this era by improving our lives in very personal ways.”
As with the past five consecutive years, Apple and Google have retained their spots as the top two most valuable brands.
Capernaum: A Must Watch Movie Now in Cinemas
Ever since its premiered at Cannes last May, the heart-wrenching story from the direction of Nadine Labaki, has been wining prizes and awards, and was even nominated for an Oscar.
The story revolves around a Beirut street kid who runs away from his abusive and unhappy home, and then befriend an Ethiopian woman who works as a cleaning lady without legal papers. She gives him a place to stay in, while he, in return, takes care of her baby while she’s at work.
One day, the woman gets caught, and he once again goes back to the streets, but this time, with the lady’s baby at his care. The boy then, starts getting confronted by some horrific choices.
The boy turns rebellious and files a suit against his parents; for bringing him to such an agonizing and unfair world.
The movie is staring Zain al Rafeea, Yordanos Shiferaw, Kawsar Al Haddad among others.
American presenter Oprah Winfrey who is also a voting member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, exclaimed that “Capernaum” is a must-see movie.
The movie screened for the first time in Egypt last Wednesday, on the 20th of March at Zawya cinema, also screening in Renaissance and Zamalek cinemas.
The movie is definitely heartbreaking, with a bit of button-pushing melodrama happening, but the emotional power and force of the movie makes it up for any flaw. The scenes of the boy and the baby was remarkably performed and very well directed. Furthermore, the idea that the movie is discussing is itself very impressive, and it shows what poverty and desperation mean, and what humanity and love look like.
To The Women Who Have Done Us Miracles
It’s the 12th of March, and I’m out with my mother. I want to buy her a mother’s day gift, I ask her to try on this new pair of shoes that I know well that it suits her style. But she chooses another, one that matches my style and not hers, because clearly she wants me to wear it with her.
We then go to a silver store, I want to exchange a necklace I got earlier. I fall for this ring, which 10 minutes later, I find her paying for it. It’s almost mother’s day, and she is the one buying me a gift.
She hands me the bag, kisses my forehead, and my eyes start to tear up. It’s a ring, a very simple silver one. I’m clearly not crying because of it, I’m tearing up for the meaning behind it.
I have always believed that there are no selfless deeds, we do a good deed, and expect to feel good about ourselves. We make a nice gesture, and wait for the other person to show us appreciation. But my mother, my mother refuted this theory of mine.
Selfless deeds do exist, because every day, she makes one.
I never knew what to get my mother, because nothing satisfies her more than seeing us, her children, happy. And that’s why, this mother’s day, I’m buying my brother a gift, with her name on the gift tag.
So to the woman who raised me to be selfless, to put other people’s needs ahead of mine. Thank you. And to the women who were more than just mothers, who took on the role of a father, a sister and a friend. Who worked day after day and came home to continue working. You are fierce, and you’re beautifully strong.
And in the light of this month, I wonder to myself, how will it feel to be a mother one day? How will I ever become so good as my mother is? I think of the change in my personality, when I acquire that motherly instinct; that will turn me somehow into a superhero, multitasking and doing wonders. I think of it, and I can’t wait. Because maybe I’ll never be able to pay back my own mother, but I surely will pay her back by raising my kids the same way she raised me. Strong, selfless and kind.
