Karl Lagerfeld, Iconic Chanel Designer dies at 85

Published

on

Yesterday the fashion world has lost one of the remarkable figures in the industry, Karl Lagerfeld, the iconic German Designer and creative director for Chanel and Fend.

Lagerfeld has worked tirelessly for LVMH’s Fendi and his own label, up until his death. And his designs are known to have added yet another charm to the label.

Karl Lagerfeld had been designing for Fendi since 1965 and had been at the creative helm of Chanel since 1983. All of this, while still maintaining to design collections for his own brand.

He changed his name as he believed Lagerfeld sounded “more commercial”.

Lagerfeld was known to encourage young and new designers, like Victoria Beckham – who has praised him for his kindness and generosity.

It’s true Lagerfeld has left our world, but his work and memory will forever be deeply embedded in the hearts of many, and that was apparent in the many profound tributes sent his way.

“Today the world lost a giant among men,” said the editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine, Anna Wintour.

Industry heavyweights, celebrities and even political figures, have all issued heartfelt tributes.

The British fashion house Burberry released their latest campaign ‘TB Monogram‘ starring Gigi Hadid, which is a first for the model, after making her Burberry runway debut earlier this year at Tisci’s Fall 2019 show.

The Palestinian-Dutch model Gigi Hadid presented the different faces of Burberry, including the boy, the gentleman, the girl and the lady. Thus portraying how the brand appeals to the different ages, and various segments.

‘The idea behind the shoot was to create imagery that allowed Gigi to play out the four characters in a very simple, stripped-back and honest studio environment,” explains photographer Nick Knight, who shot the campaign.

“I have always loved and respected Riccardo’s work, and I feel so honored and grateful that he trusted me with this project,” said Hadid in an official statement. “My first Burberry show was my first time working with Riccardo, and the timing just felt perfect. It gave us our first opportunity to really get to know each other.”
