For many years, I’ve been dreading that time of the year when families come together to celebrate Easter the Egyptian way. I’d always prepared locking myself up in my room or leaving Cairo for the time being until people have devoured all their feseekh, renga, and bassal akhdar. The smell of rotten corpses exuding from the long departed fish that somehow, some humans find appetizing has forever baffled me. I never understood how some could easily exhale and inhale around the gruesome fragrance of feseekh.
This year however, some very brave woman by the name of Sara Mohamed decided to bless (curse) the internet with a whole, complete, total photoshoot with only feseekh posing as her deceased models. Below, is the abomination in full-view:
1. The eyes are the windows to the soul

2. Like a bouquet of decomposing flowers

3. The final scene in 300 looked exactly like that

4. Say a prayer for the deceased

5. Romanticizing feseekh is exactly what the world needs:

So, how did we get here, my friends? I don’t even know what’s going on anymore.
Goodbye, world.
For Egyptians are dark and full of terror.
