The opening of the event, platinum tournament of the Professional Squash Association (PSA), was on October 10th and was held with the iconic Great Pyramid of Giza as the backdrop.

Following her win, Al-Sherbini will overtake Gohar as the women’s World No.1 on November 1 and Farag will take back the top spot from his fellow Egyptian Mohamed Al-Shorbagy on the men’s side.

“Of course, just playing here in front of the Pyramids is very big for me,” Al-Sherbini told reporters.

Zamalek Club president Mortada Mansour has been suspended for four years. The Egyptian Football Association (EFA), headed by Amr al-Ganainy, has officially notified the International Federation of Association Footbal (FIFA) of the four-year suspension.

An additional letter was sent to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) by officials from the EFA, regarding a penalty against Mansour. The sanctions issued against him include his suspension and a 100,000EGP fine.

The actions enforced by the committee come in light of several complaints that came against Mansour by several sports federations and clubs, including Al-Ahly Club, the Egyptian Handball Federation, the EFA, and various members of the Zamalek Club.

The committee called on Egypt’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Ashraf Sobhy, in order to apply the penalties in accordance with Article 84 of the Egyptian Constitution and the provisions of Sports Law No. 71 of 2017.

In response to the suspension and penalties enforced, Mansour submitted on Monday an official memorandum against the committee’s decision.

Ashraf Sobhy said that the memorandum will be looked at and studied examined before making any decision.

Mansour made a statement earlier during an interview with journalist Ahmed Moussa on Egypt’s Sada al-Balad satellite channel that his suspension “will not be implemented and I will continue my work normally,” adding that only the General Assembly of the Zamalek Club has the right to determine his fate.

Africa Cup of Nations Postponed Until 2022

The confederation of African Football just announced yesterday the postponement of the Africa Cup of Nations until 2022, which was scheduled in 2021.

“After consultation with stakeholders and taking into consideration the current global situation, the tournament has been rescheduled for January 2022. The date for the final tournament and the remaining matches of the qualifiers will be communicated in due course,” a statement read on the CAF website.

The CAF executive committee held a meeting on Tuesday to discuss the fate of the competition amid the outbreak of the virus.

“This decision was taken due to the uncertainties about the coronavirus health situation and especially because of the scheduling problems since four rounds of qualifiers would need to be fitted into the October and November windows for international matches,” CAF President Ahmad Ahmad told a news conference after the meeting.

The Nations Cup was supposed to be held next January in Cameroon, but given that the CAF has postponed three rounds of qualifiers already, the fate of the tournament has become unclear.

All continental sports activities have also been suspended since March due to the pandemic, including the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup, which were originally scheduled to be played on 1 May.

We are sure a lot of football enthusiasts are disappointed by the news, but it’s for the best as safety of players and the audience come first.
