It’s brutal in appearance, almost frighteningly fast and limited to just 40 examples, all of which have been pre-sold at a staggering €5 million apiece. That equates to about $8 million, plus taxes and options, making the new Bugatti Divo the world’s dearest production car by a considerable margin.
The sold-out model is armed with an eight-liter W16 engine, a Bugatti classic, capable of 1,500 PS. The Divo was designed for maximized aerodynamics: a modified chassis plays part in making the car 35 kilograms lighter than the standard Chiron with 90 kilograms more downforce.
The Divo is based on the Chiron coupe – a mere steal at €2.4 million ($4.3 million), ex factory. Anscheidt says the Chiron is technically challenging because there is so much componentry, including 10 radiators just below the surface plus in addition to the enormous eight-litre engine with quad turbos.
The Divo is not more powerful than the Chiron, just lighter and with more downforce. That will make it quicker around a race circuit, albeit at the expense of top speed (a mere 380km/h instead of 420). Anscheidt calls it “more beastly” than the Chiron.
No gas-fueled cars in Egypt by 2040, only electric vehicles
CAIRO – 11 November 2018: Parliament’s Energy and Environment Committee has started discussing the spread of electric cars in Egypt to replace gas-fueled vehicles.
Parliamentarian Abdel Hamid Demerdash proposed the topic and noted about the spread of electric cars globally.
Demerdash stressed that Egypt should benefit from experience of other countries in using electric cars.
“By 2040, all cars across the world are supposed to be electric,” said Husseini al-Far, a member of the Electricity Distribution Sector.
He noted that Egypt has been working on a concrete plan, in coordination with different ministries, to adopt the same global trend and use electric cars instead of gas-fueled cars.
“However, we still need more legislations on customs, tax and solar energy stations,” Far added.
In March, Trade Minister Tarek Kabil issued a decision allowing the import of used electric cars, on condition that they are no more than three years old.
Kabil said in a statement that the rules for importing cars in general do not allow the import of used cars, but an exception is permitted for electric cars to encourage the use of these environmentally friendly vehicles.
In addition to the electric vehicles’ contribution to reducing carbon emissions, they are also cost-efficient and are thereby exempted from custom duties, Kabil added.
The minister confirmed the ministry’s keenness to encourage the manufacture of electric cars in Egypt, especially after the launch of a network for the transport and maintenance of electric cars in Egypt.
Kabil said that many countries around the globe are heading towards using these kind of cars, with some countries, such as the United Kingdom, announcing that it will only allow electric cars on roads by 2040.
Unlike conventional vehicles that use a gasoline or diesel-powered engine, electric cars and trucks use an electric motor powered by electricity from batteries or a fuel cell, and therefore they are cleaner than the most efficient conventional vehicles.
Egypt has been working on boosting its car industry, with several companies expressing their interest to invest in the local automotive sector.
Kabil said in previous statements that the current investment in the auto industry is at about $3 billion; $1.6 billion in the automotive industry and $1.4 billion in the feeding industries.
Egypt’s car industry has about 170 companies, including 19 companies that manufacture and assemble passenger cars, buses, micro and minibuses, and transport vehicles, while more than 150 companies are engaged in manufacturing a number of car components.
The Legend: Peugeot E-Legend
Let’s discuss some hot wheels! Specifically, the newly-announced Peugeot E-Legend–and it wouldn’t be too unbelievable to call it legendary!
The Peugeot e-Legend Concept, an electric sports car with advanced autonomous features styled on the 504 coupé, went on display at the Paris motor show (earlier this month)– and the firm’s boss has said he would “love” for it to go into production.
The machine has been created by the French firm to prove that cars in the future can be exciting. Peugeot boss Jean-Phillipe Imparato said he was proud of the concept and would love for a model based on it to go into production but a decision was still some way off.
The e-Legend arrives 50 years after the French firm launched the popular coupé version of the 504. The new car takes numerous styling cues from that machine, including the twin headlights at the front. But let’s discuss some specs!
the e-Legend is intended to showcase future technologies. It is designed to an electric powertrain featuring twin motors – located on each axle – that produce 456bhp and 590lb ft, delivered to all four wheels. It has a 0-62mph time of less than four seconds, with a top speed of 137mph. It features 100kWh of battery capacity, located under the floors, which offer a range of more than 370 miles.
Two driver modes are available. The Legend mode features three smartphone-sized driver display screens that mimic the three dials on the 504 coupé dashboard. There is also a Boost mode, which uses a single driver information screen and projects images from the car’s cameras onto digital surfaced inside the car to offer a more immersive experience. The seats are clothed in a blue interwoven velvet, which also echoes the 504 coupé.
The e-Legend has been developed purely as a concept machine, with no plans to put it into production. However, Housssan said that “many elements” on the car could be used on future production models.
So what do you guys think? The car certainly looks like it’s from the far future! But the technology used is truly fascinating. Let’s hope that we will be able to witness a vehicle like this one roaming the streets very soon.
