Always Nominees, Never Winners: 10 Great Hollywood Actors With Zero Academy Awards

Published

on

‘Tis indeed the season of grand film awards! The Oscars are approaching and soon, we’re going to have people start calling out the Academy for all the snubs we’re going to witness, same as every year. And just in case you’ve been living under a rock, the Oscars will take place on the 4th of March this year. Although it is a highly flawed system of evaluation, some people actually measure an actor’s success by the amount of naked golden statues they have won. So, here’s a list of some truly great thespians who have not won an Oscar award yet:

1. Michelle Williams

Nominated four times, twice for Best Actress in Blue Valentine (2010) and My Week With Marilyn (2011) and twice for Best Supporting Actress in Brokeback Mountain (2005) and Manchester By The Sea (2016). Michelle still hasn’t been called upon for an acceptance speech, in spite of her spectacular talent and her incredibly diverse roles.

2. Harrison Ford

Now, who could believe that the man who played Han Solo, Indiana Jones and Rick Deckard has ZERO Academy awards in his account? Hard to grasp. Ford’s been nominated for an Oscar once in 1986 for his role in the film Witness (1985). Once as in one time…una. What the hell?

3. Amy Adams

The 43 year old actress has been nominated FIVE times for an Academy award, so far. Four of them as Best Supporting Actress, and once for Best Actress in 2014’s American Hustle. She nabbed her first nomination back in 2006 for her role in the film Junebug (2005).

4. Gary Oldman

The 59 year old actor has only been nominated twice for an Academy award. Once, in 2012 for his role in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011), and now again this year for his role as Winston Churchill in 2017’s Darkest Hour. A lot of people are rooting for Oldman this year!

5. Glenn Close

Just in case you didn’t know, Glenn Close has been nominated for six Academy awards. Three times as Best Actress and another three as Best Supporting actress. But unfortunately, still no wins.

6. Joaquin Phoenix

Phoenix has never really been a fan of award shows or of big events in general. Everybody in Hollywood knows that. But his talent and skill surely do compensate for his lack of interest in social interactions. The man has been nominated three times for an Academy award. His last nomination was back in 2013 when he was nominated for his role in 2012’s The Master.

7. Edward Norton

Where is Edward Norton? Norton’s fans have been asking themselves this question ever since rumors arose in 2015 that the actor is giving up on his life as a star. Other rumors stated that Hollywood directors aren’t fond of working with the guy because he’s hard to deal with. Nonetheless, no one can deny that Norton is one hell of an actor. Norton’s been nominated three times for an Academy award, the latest nomination dates back to 2015 for his role in Inarritu’s Birdman (2014).

8. Liam Neeson

Mr. Neeson has been blessing us with exquisite performances for the last 30 years and still, this acting gem has only been nominated for an Oscar ONCE. The date is 1994, and of course, it was for his role in Spielberg’s Schindler’s List (1993).

9. Helena Bonham Carter

Look me in the eye and tell me you don’t think that Helena Bonham Carter is the QUEEN of unorthodox roles! Carter never seizes to surprise us with her bold performances and her striking characters. This BAWS has only been nominated twice for an academy award. Once, back in 1998 and another, in 2011 for her role in Tom Hooper’s The King’s Speech (2010).

10. Michelle Pfeiffer

Michelle Pfeiffer’s been in the business since 1979! She has proved herself to be a powerful actress and a force to be reckoned with. And yet, she’s never won an Oscar. The powerhouse’s only been nominated three times for an Academy award; her last nomination was in 1993…
