Always Nominees, Never Winners: 10 Great Hollywood Actors With Zero Academy Awards

‘Tis indeed the season of grand film awards! The Oscars are approaching and soon, we’re going to have people start calling out the Academy for all the snubs we’re going to witness, same as every year. And just in case you’ve been living under a rock, the Oscars will take place on the 4th of March this year. Although it is a highly flawed system of evaluation, some people actually measure an actor’s success by the amount of naked golden statues they have won. So, here’s a list of some truly great thespians who have not won an Oscar award yet:

1. Michelle Williams


Nominated four times, twice for Best Actress in Blue Valentine (2010) and My Week With Marilyn (2011) and twice for Best Supporting Actress in Brokeback Mountain (2005) and Manchester By The Sea (2016). Michelle still hasn’t been called upon for an acceptance speech, in spite of her spectacular talent and her incredibly diverse roles.

2. Harrison Ford


Now, who could believe that the man who played Han Solo, Indiana Jones and Rick Deckard has ZERO Academy awards in his account? Hard to grasp. Ford’s been nominated for an Oscar once in 1986 for his role in the film Witness (1985). Once as in one time…una. What the hell?

3. Amy Adams


The 43 year old actress has been nominated FIVE times for an Academy award, so far. Four of them as Best Supporting Actress, and once for Best Actress in 2014’s American Hustle. She nabbed her first nomination back in 2006 for her role in the film Junebug (2005).

4. Gary Oldman

The 59 year old actor has only been nominated twice for an Academy award. Once, in 2012 for his role in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011), and now again this year for his role as Winston Churchill in 2017’s Darkest Hour. A lot of people are rooting for Oldman this year!

5. Glenn Close

Just in case you didn’t know, Glenn Close has been nominated for six Academy awards. Three times as Best Actress and another three as Best Supporting actress. But unfortunately, still no wins.

6. Joaquin Phoenix

Phoenix has never really been a fan of award shows or of big events in general. Everybody in Hollywood knows that. But his talent and skill surely do compensate for his lack of interest in social interactions. The man has been nominated three times for an Academy award. His last nomination was back in 2013 when he was nominated for his role in 2012’s The Master.

7. Edward Norton

Where is Edward Norton? Norton’s fans have been asking themselves this question ever since rumors arose in 2015 that the actor is giving up on his life as a star. Other rumors stated that Hollywood directors aren’t fond of working with the guy because he’s hard to deal with. Nonetheless, no one can deny that Norton is one hell of an actor. Norton’s been nominated three times for an Academy award, the latest nomination dates back to 2015 for his role in Inarritu’s Birdman (2014).

8. Liam Neeson


Mr. Neeson has been blessing us with exquisite performances for the last 30 years and still, this acting gem has only been nominated for an Oscar ONCE. The date is 1994, and of course, it was for his role in Spielberg’s Schindler’s List (1993).

9. Helena Bonham Carter


Look me in the eye and tell me you don’t think that Helena Bonham Carter is the QUEEN of unorthodox roles! Carter never seizes to surprise us with her bold performances and her striking characters. This BAWS has only been nominated twice for an academy award. Once, back in 1998 and another, in 2011 for her role in Tom Hooper’s The King’s Speech (2010).

10. Michelle Pfeiffer

Michelle Pfeiffer’s been in the business since 1979! She has proved herself to be a powerful actress and a force to be reckoned with. And yet, she’s never won an Oscar. The powerhouse’s only been nominated three times for an Academy award; her last nomination was in 1993…

American-Egyptian Ramy Youssef Gets Nominated For 2020 Golden Globe Award

Ramy Youssef, co-creator and lead star of the Hulu Comedy series ‘Ramy‘ has been nominated for a 2020 Golden Globes award for his lead performance in Hulu’s breakthrough series about an Egyptian American millennial.

Youssef reacted to his shocking nomination Monday morning in a direct message via Twitter. “I’m just trying to keep up with Mahershala so he can stop taunting me with his Oscars on set,” he joked, referring to Oscar and Golden Globe-winning actor Mahershala Ali, who will be featured in Season 2 of the series.

The show revolves around an American-Egyptian Muslim called Ramy Hassan as it tackles Muslim-specific issues, some irrelevant and other major. It also highlights the struggles of Ramy as he keeps up with both partying and praying in his politically-divided New Jersey neighborhood.

Tamer Hosny Breaks Guinness World Record in Abu Dhabi

Our very own pop star Tamer Hosny performed last night at Abu Dhabi’s Marina Mall a song that he wrote in honor of the UAE’s year of tolerance. That’s not all, as the star got to break a Guinness World record at the mall with the help of his fans.

Up until Thursday, fans kept posting messages to the star with the hope that he would collect the most contributions ever made to a bulletin board and that way, break a new Guinness World Record. Which impressively, they managed to make it happen!

The Marina Mall shared a number of the messages that Hosny received, saying they had received “a lot of positive and many influential messages” for Hosny.

Last night was certainly Hosny’s night as he got to break the record for being the most inspirational and influential star in the world, it is also worth mentioning that he broke his own record with twice the number this year!

“My entry to Guinness World Record will be a historical victory for every Egyptian and Arab … my greatest joy is making history with my art.” The star said prior to his win.

Congratulations to the superstar, we couldn’t be any prouder of him!

Zahi Hawass: First Arab and African to Receive the Golden Medal Award

Archaeological Zahi Hawaas has received the Golden Medal award from the Carrick Foundation in an international celebration held in Belgrade, where 500 intellectuals and politicians were present.

Five more individuals won the award including a singer from Greece, a writer and journalist from Italy and the Czech Republic, a film director and another from France.

This makes Hawass the very first Arab and African to receive such a prestigious award, that was presented to him for his archaeological discoveries and remarkable work.

The event celebrated Hawass by screening a film about his life and the discoveries he made, the veteran archaeologist was then granted the award along with a certificate of appreciation.

This is the 22nd edition of the award ceremony which is given out from the oldest institution in Europe to the most prominent figures from different fields.
