A Darkly Mystical Cairo Through the Eyes of a French Photographer

Published

on

Pascal Meunier is a French photographer and photojournalist based in Paris, whose work immensely focuses on the middle east and the Arab world. Meunier began his career years ago by photographing Aleppo, Syria for nine years. His work is not of a political nature, but rather he photographs his subjects and surroundings in a very mystical, sometimes eerie way. Meunier did a lot of work in Egypt, Cairo specifically; and his photographs are impeccable, instantly transferring you to a David Lynch like world, full of mysticism and dark charm:

EGYPT. Cairo. Public bathhouse. Hammam Barudiye.
The clock of the hammam Barudiye has not indicated the correct time for a long while. Its soiled paintings, its doubtful hygiene and its damaged woodworks do not attract any more the bygone customers.
